What’s the best way to get around Cairo?
Cairo has Africa’s first, and best, metro system; which goes to most neighbourhoods hosting tourist attractions. The metro can also bring you most of the way to the pyramids, however you’ll need to hop on a bus to complete the journey. The public bus system is extensive and cheap, but can be very crowded. Taxis are ubiquitous across Cairo, and white taxis are used by most travellers. Be sure to ask the driver to turn the meter on for the drive and try to have small notes and coins in case the driver claims to have no change.
What’s the weather in Cairo?
Cairo has a mild desert climate, with only two seasons: summer, and not summer! The days are warm and the nights are cool, and from May to October temperatures can reach as high as 35˚C degrees (95˚F). The most popular months to visit Cairo are December and January, when it will average around 20˚C (68˚F). These months are the ones least likely to bring sandstorms, which is probably another reason most people go to Cairo this time of year.
